I finally got my own kit. It's very exciting. Now all I need are some mesh heads so I can bang away at all hours without making any noise.

And, of course, I should mention my many thanks to my lovely roommate, who was willing to let me put a kit right in the middle of our apartment!

I've been taking drum lessons for close to a year now. Yes, rock drumming, yes, on a five piece kit, no, I am not in a band, and no, I do not own a kit. Yet.

I study with a fantastic teacher named Paula Spiro, who has been teaching women to play for twenty years. I've wanted to play drums since I was very young, and when a friend of mine mentioned that she'd been studying with Paula, and I finally had some disposable income, I decided now was the time. First I started out learning some basic beats, just how to move my arms and legs, and then some slightly more complicated beats. I learned to read music, learned some fills, started putting it together.
